Does not look good. Are those maples behind it further down the block? And only yours is failing? If so, something unique to your yard is responsible. Do you have a lawn service?

I had verticillium wilt get one of my Japanese maples. To me the symptoms are:

The tree leafs out
It gets warm
The leaves shrivel one branch at a time w/o showing fall color
The tree holds its dead leaves

Look for discolored branches with dark streaks. I hope it is something else.

Last year was hot and rough on trees. All kinds of them are having it rough this year.

This is the only one in the area, there are many silver maples in the neighborhood that are unaffected. I do not use lawn service.

After coming out in the spring, a couple of branches turned yellow and lost their leaves and then the entire tree turned slightly yellow and about half of the leaves dropped. Did not loose the remaining leaves but all leaves stayed on the tree and turned brown. Leaves after several weeks are still on the tree but dried brown.
