Had reason to drive by the UofW this past weekend and saw that the 20 y.o. dense mass planting of Leyland cypress at the foot of Rainier Vista bordering Montlake Boulevard, affectionately referred to as the "Black Forest", has taken a major hit this winter. Not in the greatest shape anyway, a large portion of these trees have now fallen from winds and/or snow loads and what remains standing looks diseased, dying and like crap. Even the ancient Lombardy poplars still lining portions of Montlake seem to have faired much better in our bad weather.

Appropriate time for a redesign and replanting of this area I'd say!
