You might want to check with your local sherrif's office to see if they contract with someone for this purpose, however in more rural areas this tends to be limited to remains found on public lands or on roads/highways. On private property, you might be best burying it, the same as you would a pet that passed away. Deeply and with some sort of rocks, etc. on top to deter scavangers from digging it up.

Thanks gardengal48. We weren't sure if we should be doing something else to aid in decomp. Or if we should contact public officials. We'll probably wait a bit longer and then bury what's left.

No real need to do anything if it's down to bones already. It will decompose and be scavenged rapidly, whether buried or not. Lots of little critters incapable of killing a deer will eat the carcasses.

Lots of things kill deer besides cougar, which are not at all numerous. Plain ol' starvation, for one, and diseases like hair loss syndrome, and accidents. Dog packs will go after deer, although coyote don't as a rule. Poaching is another possibility, although hunters generally pack out the whole thing in pieces.

Deer are made to be eaten. Nothing sad about it. Lots of critters got a meal out of it. They are prey, and have the high reproductive rate to support that role. Many gardeners think of deer as pests - they're very numerous, and not at all shy about taking advantage of the smorgasborg we've planted for them, and flourishing under the removal of their major predators by us humans. Not at all endangered!
