I don't know about that, but I was at a nursery a while ago and asked them what they did about slugs. They told me that they baited for slugs in February and they had minimal trouble in their G/H for the whole year. Does anyone else bait early in the year? I wonder if it would work outside?

Are they baiting or spraying metaldehyde? Which particular product is being used and in what manner can be pertinent to evaluating the results.

Hi, I tried slug bait early last year (Feb. I think) and it worked pretty good for me. I baited again around April or May. It helped alot to bait early! Going to do it again this year.

I use Iron phosphate slug bait, I think it's called Sluggo, because I hate poisons. I don't know how it compares but it does work and has to be reapplied when it rains. I've also heard of using epsom salts, which are also also a fertilizer.

A slug virus would be nice.:-)

I have not heard about a slug virus. I feed slugs monthly starting in February so that they dont eat my plants. I dont know the name of the food but it comes in a big bright yellow and red box with a slug on the front - that's how I know it is slug food! :)

Muddy it sounds like you are using Corry's, see the link, which is metaldehyde based and very toxic to pets. Please use it with caution. Before I switched to iron based products, I'd use Corry's or the gray liquid bait under a tilted brick or rock to get the slugs but protect the pets.

I think the iron products are a tad more expensive but a lot less than a trip to the emergency vet.

I am using Sluggo in Feb and then in April. My hens are helping me when i let them out.
But it would be nice to have slug virus, so i don't need to even think about them.
