Golden bamboo is an obvious choice, somewhat tufted habit and added interest of swollen, crowded joints good for pots. Available in variegated forms for more color.

The Bamboo Garden could help you with ideas. I think they have combined with Cistus? I have a clumper called Fargesia nitida, fountain bamboo, that has dark green leaves and goes kind of dormant in winter, that is in full sun most of the day in the ground.

Stick with small Phyllostachys, any of the aureas, Koi, Flavescens Inversa or Holochrysa. Phyllostachys humilis is also a nice one although a rapid grower. Semiarundinaria fastuosa 'Viridis' is also attractive for container culture, it has short branches with wider leaves and if it gets taller than you would like, it looks OK topped. I have seen larger bamboos in containers but they never look as good as they do in the ground with lots of room to roam. Step bamboo up gradually in pot size too or you may end up with a ring of new culms on the edge of a large container. It's OK, but it can look kind of funky... Don't forget to water your bamboo in the winter as the evergreen foliage carries much of the rain water away from the container!!!
