Did I kill my rose?

Help! the deer ate all the leaves off my old Heritage rose. In frustration, I cut it down to bare stalks with no green whatsoever, then transplanted it to my friend's yard. Does anyone have any suggestions on what I can do to save it/encourage it to live through this?

Hard to believe it won't come back. Keep it mulched, watered, exposed to the sun etc.
