Hello,

I planted lettuce, kale, arugula, corn salad, spinach and pole peas back in March

All came up and the spinach is great. A lot of lettuce came up, although it seemed to take longer than usual to get big enough.

So I picked some a couple of weeks ago, and it is VERY bitter. I have several different varieties, seed from both Hume and Territorial.

I have never had bitter lettuce this early, especially when it's mostly been in the fifties daytime temp here.

Could it be the grounds crew that is spraying for weeds close by? or the liquid fertilizer I used because they were slow?

This time of year, the lettuce is usually very sweet...
