Hail yes! Major lightning / booming thunderstorm in Oregon City. 6 red horsechestnuts whose candle blooms are just opening ... aarrggghh. And the wind! whipping gusting shreeeking trunk-bent-over wind. And it's COLD out. Feels like winter. About 2" of rain since last evening in back bucket. Leaf-shredding day :^(

Thunder and lightning and it was a little windy here this afternoon but didn't last long, the sun came out and the rest of the afternoon looks pretty good.

North of Portland, we had a small gage hailstorm and thunder and lightning. My seedling 4 o'clocks I just set out seem OK. More T & L now, hopefully no more hail. Once in Texas there were hailstones the size of softballs. It sounded like the roof would break, and my sister's windshield on her car did. There was hail like that recently in the news somewhere.

I hear you about the dogwoods--I came home to find my red twig dogwoods slumping to the ground. Hopefully they will make a comeback!

Bleargh. Well, my brand-new Persian Ironwood tree has the rattiest leaves imaginable now, poor thing... but thinking about hail the size of softballs has made me feel grateful for our much smaller hail, hemnancy. Hope all your victims recover!

My waterlily pads don't look so great......

Dwarf iris flowers look like they have been chewed on. Rhodies have dropped their flowers early. Tomatoes and peppers and annual seedlings left out on the deck hardening off have pock marked leaves. Rained/hailed (I was at the office and didn't see/couldn't rescue) so hard that soil was displaced from pots! That's a first. Looks like most will recover but somewhat the worse for wear. jwww

Only small hail here in SE Portland, just minor ailanthus tree leaf tear. However, hail on 3 consecutive days (May 2/3/4) is very unusual.
