White Oaks........ tips of branches dying

DS has some 100 year old oaks on his property and 2 weeks ago they noticed that 4 of the trees in a large stand are showing signs of dieback on some of the higher branches. Not sure how much of the branch is involved, but the leaves at the tip of the branches have turned a light brown/beige color.

They're located in a rural area between Salem & Portland.

Has anyone see this or have any idea what could be causing it?
