Description fits Rosa rugosa, aka beach rose. A pretty tough species rose that is often used in park plantings. Very disease resistant as roses go, with a sweet, carrying fragrance and will produce very attractive large hips in late fall and winter. Some cultivars will also develop nice fall foliage color. White selections include 'Alba', 'Albo-plena' and 'Blanc Double de Coubert'. Rather easily located in area nurseries.
