A.k.a. 'Wilma Goldcrest', less yellow sport of 'Goldcrest'. From The Netherlands, I believe. These are common here now, sold for indoor use. Old ones unknown, local hardiness uncertain. Monterey cypress in general rare here before these forms came on the market, yet some tall, old specimens of the typical (wild) green tree are present.

Pretty commonly sold for outdoor use as well. I have one I've grown in a container, as I do a lot of dwarf conifers, in my patio for more than 5 years. Seems to be perfectly happy in this climate and I seem to have read somewhere that this cultivar is hardier than one would think - to -10F, if memory serves correctly. Color intensity is maintained in a lot of sun.

Has the potential to get to a decent size. Sold one at a previous nursery that was 9' tall and about 3' in diameter.

Another important issue, with the typical plant, in addition to tenderness, is canker. These two factors limit its distribution severely. I am seeing Leyland browning out nicely around here now; I do not know if this is canker or not.

A 'Donard Gold' in Occidental, CA was over 55 ft. tall about 10 years ago. 'Lutea' had reached 108 ft. high in Ireland by 1983.

I just planted 'Donard Gold' this year... I think it has room enough to get big where I put it! I hope it has the same nice form as regular C. macrocarpa (which I also have growing at the edge of my windswept cliff)

Seems like I saw pics of another golden form of Monterey Cypress that was very large... some older cultivar. I could never find it and now I don't even remember the name.... could be 'Lutea'.

Tonight I heard the discoloration of the Leylands at Husky Stadium was thought, in fact to be Coryneum canker, as well as perhaps a water mold (Phytophthora). Yippee! >Clink!
