Fencing needs some climbers. Blank house walls rather apparent also, as are neighbors. Plant, man, plant! Lushness part of tropical look.

I agree 100%. The only problem is I don't really know how far I want to take the 'tropical' look. I really like the gardens in the Bay Area, and something similar would make me happy, obviously using mostly hardy plants that can be grown here. The other thing is.....I just put that fence in after my 7' solid ceder fence blew down this winter. I kind of like the open look, at least for now. The new fence also helps with cold air drainage in the winter, not to mention a couple of extra hours of sunlight and heat on the west side of my house in summer. Over time, I am sure I will have it well covered with climbers, but for now...............I think I will just let things be 'til I figure out what to do with my yard. The water side seems to be the biggest problem, because I don't want to block mine, or my nieghbors view. I have some ideas, but that will have to wait until the late summer. Take care.

One more picture. This is with my little 6 year old. She loves the palms and bananas!! It sounds funny but with the beach, the palms and bananas, her classmates are itching to visit. Hopefuly Mom can bring them over from Bellevue when I am gone this summer.

What a delightful garden and little girl! In the second picture, what is the tree with the fuschia-colored flowers? I am looking for a small tree, and this looks interesting.

I think the original author of this post is away on a trip. The plant in question is a Callistemon species. It is similar to C. subulatus, but with more magenta/pink flowers, and more upright habit.... hard to say exactly which one it is. I have been to this garden and collected seed from this very plant.

Great house, garden, and pics. Your daughter is adorable too. You've got some really fun plants. I've got a still-small Beschorneria that I've been growing since it was a seedling three years ago. I'm hoping it will bloom some time soon. How old is yours?

I don't think you should have to wait too much longer for that one, I've seen some fairly small rosettes with spikes.

Hot as heck, but not a bad sunset. Ron is right. My rostettes are not very large, but the seed pods are dragging the entire plant down.
