Nice kitchen! I agree with the first comment! You don't want your backslash to compete with your granite. I think the photo of the Grey Tumbled Travertine would over power your granite. Just my opinion. Keep it simple is key:)

I think that black glass subway tile would look great here. Take off the hood so that your tiler can easily take the tile to the ceiling and then re-install the hood.

What is your budget? I have used glass in many of my designed kitchens....The back of the glass can be treated for several types of looks. It is cost-effective, modern and won't clutter the aesthetics of the room. If you cook (like I do) its also a breeze to clean!

In most spaces, glass can be cut as one solid piece. The company you order from will have its parameters. I try to avoid using seams if possible, although they are necessary from time to time. I also love to have "film" installed on the backside of the glass so it looks etched, or opaque. You can play with the color on the wall as well to create many different effects. Here is a similar project (although more modern) with a silver leaf treatment on the backside of the glass. It is one solid piece with lighting installed above to reflect the metallic.

Have you considered stainless steel back splash it comes in lots of shapes and sizes

I would just go for a 6" strip of the matching granite and then a durable paint above that. Otherwise, glass.

I like warm walnut tumbled travertine with this type granite and the cherry cabinets.

I think your backsplash would look great with tumbled travertine tiles-- AggieDesigns or Deborah Butler's suggestions. A beautiful kitchen!

I completed the backsplash with warm thumb bled travertine with a marble and red quart that looks like glass inset! I took all your advice

Go for glass. Take one of the shades of the countertop an find the same color of glass. Your countertops have enough of texture to add more on the backsplash. Don' t forget that you have also 2 types of wood - floor and cabinets...so go plain-:)

Hi, Iam renovating my kitchen. I will have white cabinets and a black countertop or white cabinets and a calcutta style white with grey veining countertop. Haven't decided yet. It's taking me a long time to decide and meanwhile the contractor keeps asking me if I want 2 inch or 4 inch. I don't like either. Should I get nothing for the moment and decide on a backsplash later or should a get a 1 inch one for spills now and choose one later? Will the countertop and wall survive for awhile without anything or should I do an inch now until I find something?
