I filter mine because I don't like the taste, the chlorine, and all the junk in it. Filtered water tastes much better!

Strictly speaking it depends on what particular plants you are trying to grow, and what, specifically is in your water. Normally this kind of thing would probably mostly be a concern when undertaking activities like commercial production of epiphytic orchids.
