Egyptian Walking onions develope bulblets on top of the leaves. Maybe some other onions do this too. Some types of garlic do this. I haven't had very good luck with the onions returning the next year when left in the ground even though they are supposed to be perennials. Storing the bulblets might be possible if kept from drying out. Maybe someone has a good idea how to do that. I have a few bulblets from a trade that are growing in a pot now and I will probably keep some in the pot in my garage over winter.

Sounds like egyptian walking onions. I have oodles of them, the more I give away, the more I have! Just let the top bulblets drop to the ground and they will be onions next yr. I just grow them for an oddity....we think they are too spicy hot for us.
