Invasive means to spread at a distance.

In my garden -run on the dry side - occasional seedlings would turn up but were removed because I didn't want more. After about 3 or so years, I removed the parent bush because of the fungus disease rust.

It is not invasive in the ecological sense of the word but it was quite thuggish in my former garden. Reseeded quite freely and somewhat resistant to easy removal :-) If you are interested in a St John's wort, I'd suggest the 'Mystical' series, a group of cultivars of Hypericum x inodorum that are grown specifically for their very brightly and distinctly colored berries - blush pink, slamon coral, orange, red and even black. These are considered quite desirable for cut flower arrangements and the hybrids are very rust resistant, a problem that plagues most other SJW's. Not likely to be nearly as thuggish re: reseeding, either.

It has gone wild on multiple sites in the Seattle area. I think it is just a matter of time before there is quite a bit of it around.

Thank-you to all of you for the input. I think I'll play it safe with this one and observe it carefully to determine if it is what I thought it was. I grew the plants from seed I collected legally but it was not labeled. So it may well be the species Hypericum x inodorum you mentioned Gardengal. I'm trying to get a group of deer resistant yet interesting plants established, since our local deer population is exploding and plants which formerly were just nibbled infrequently are now becoming a regular part of their diet.

Bobbex or Plantskydd, two deer repellents that really work. Do a Google search for a dealer near you.

I have used Bobbex, plants sprayed with it that deer were eating before were left alone after spraying. It got to the point that my wife who enjoys watching deer complained that the deer weren't showing because I sprayed too much of it.

I haven't used Plantskydd, but the Xmas tree growers use it and claim it works as well.
