Good to know there are others nearby! I'm confused---which happens alot because I'm a pretty novice gardener, but aren't we in zone 5? In my Sunset garden book it says zone 5, but I'm seeing others write zone 8.

Also, anyone interested in some boxwood? I have about 20 that need a new home. Our 100+ pound bernese mountain dog is too rough on them and I'm replacing them with something else. I have a photo of them on our family website. www.genericnewsletter.citymaker.com In the "Home and Garden Projects" section go to "Akebono Cherry" and you'll see them around the cherry tree. We're going to do a decorative stone border, hopefully this week. Our dog can't do too much damage to that!

We are in zone 5 in the Sunset system, zone 8 in the USDA system. The Sunset system is more useful/meaningful, but the USDA system is much more widely referenced in books, plant catalogs, etc. Some of the coldest microclimates in the area such as Big Valley should probably be considered USAD zone 7b, sunset zone 4 based on temperature recordings from that region, but this is not indicated on any maps.

Hi Eileen, Good question! I was feeling a bit isolated myself. I'm 10 minutes from Poulsbo, just the other side of Hood Canal Bridge. How big are your boxwoods? Markey, where the heck is Chico?

I'm in Poulsbo as well, actually closer to Suquamish.
It's good to see a few names from this side of the pond...
I missed the last GW swap in Bonney Lake, and would be interested in hosting a trade at my house this fall, if anyone is interested.
Ian, I would LOVE to talk Proteaceae and Eucalypts with you. Are you still working for Junkoh?

Lisa, no, I'm not working there anymore. I have greatly expanded my collections of both. It would be great to get together. Better do it quick, I am just about to move all my plants away from Poulsbo!
