My goldflame spirea just started blooming again. My neighbors rhodie has a few blooms. High temps here have been about 10 degrees F above average for the summer. And spring felt like summer! I don't want lots of rain this winter, but I bet plants could use it.

Now a month after Dotty's post, the spring flowers continue in Seattle. Ceanothus around town are blooming with blue sprays of flowers in spots (not a full flush like springtime) and a few violet flowers have opened in my yard with yellow dandelions. Strange but beautiful.

Plants mentioned often flower as described at this time. In the case of early spring blooming kinds in particular there is so much time for the otherwise overwintering flower buds to mature that sometimes these open ahead of time in fall. In other instances, with kinds that flower on the current season's growth the stem growth made since a previous flush of bloom is now ready to produce at least a partial set of its own bloom. Popular hybrid kinds that have been selected specifically to flower as much as possible - most prominent example probably "ever-blooming" rose cultivars - may often be seen still in bloom in the Seattle area in December.
