I find that just by having one behind a drape or curtain on a windowsill, it cuts out enough light that it will bloom. I also had one bloom that was in the shadow of a piece of furniture from where the light was located.

Zygocactus also bloom on temperature so if the night temps are low enough for long enough that will trigger bloom too.

Being on a windowsill in fall usually will do it. :)

Ours do not fit the profile in either respect, although we have none sitting right under lights.

My aunt taught me not to water it for a month, then water it weekly, and it will bloom every other month. Seems to work for me. - Paul

I've gotten more than one bloom per year too, but not that many!

My zygocacti spend the summer outdoors (as do all my houseplants). I bring them inside right about now - on my list of this weekend's chores - and they will immediately set buds and bloom. I can pretty much count on them in full bloom for Halloween! Rebloom typically occurs in January or February with a few sporadic flowers before and after. This method has worked for me for years.

I'm wondering when most people bring in their Amaryllis bulbs. I don't try to get them to bloom by Christmas, and right now they still have nice foliage. I would tend to bring them in before frost. Last year I couldn't find where I put one in a dark place, and found it really late, very yellow but actually trying to grow, and it took off like gangbusters when it got some light and water and bloomed right away.
