We did not get a big crop - they looked like they didn't get pollinated, but the few we did get were so sweet.

A question: how do you keep raccoons away from grapes? I have just one canadice growing on a fence and the little buggers get to them every time, right before we would. We got *one* bunch this year. Seriously. They'll rip vines, too. (One time a raccoon ripped a whole branch off a cherry tree--he got out too far and it sheared off) How do you do it short of electric fencing? TIA.

Deer ate all of my neighbor's grape leaves and left the grapes alone. His grapes are trained on a fence.
Then along came the raccoons and ate the grapes.
Happens every year.
I have a Concord grape plant I received from my grandmother growing up in an old Hazelnut tree. So far so good. Too bad it's on a north slope in the shade and doesn't produce much. What little it did produce this year, I picked with the help of an orchard ladder.

Racoons are a real pest. I would contact the Agri Department for a legal answer, rather than stick my neck out. There are the Have a heart traps, but then I would not want to deal with the trapped racoon either. An electric fence wire may be all you need.

Had a bounty of super-delicious Einset and Jupiter grapes, grown on wires against a south-facing fence next to the sidewalk. Good pollination this year, maybe because in the parking strip I'd planted heaps of plants that attracted hordes of bees.

We have resident raccoons in our urban neighborhood, but they never seemed to touch the grapes. Don't know why. They must have plenty of other sources of chow.

The only critters who touched the grapes were neighbors and passersby; I'd see their fingerprints on the grapes, and I'd sometimes watch them sneak a few, from a vantage point inside the house. There were so many grapes, though, I didn't mind. I ended up giving away several pounds.

My best grape this year, was a hybrid of Saint Pepin x Alden. The fruit is a sort of Amber Golden Color, and has a very light muscat flavor. They hold well on the vine after ripening as well, so ought to need very little, "if any " spray for mildew.

If anyone knows how to post photos here from photo bucket, please let me know. I've done it in the past but recently tried and it didn't work. Have a lot of grape photos I'd like to share.

I am wondering if anyone else on the forum has the seedless grape variety Perlette, and if so, how is it doing for you? I tried Thompson a few years ago, but it never seemed to set much fruit.
