Hey guys,

Where is every one, i have been gone a few weeks, just popping in now and then, only to see no action over here.

Is this the way it is from now til spring?Just wondering, wanna know what to look for.

Did you all get every thing planted that you wanted to get planted, i still have 6 in pots, but i may just leave them now til spring time, getting all my other hosta pots ready for a long winters nap,so, whatcya all up to?

    Hi Carol,
Glad to see someone on here. Actually miss everyone and reading all the posts. I also still have 6 in pots. I'm thinking I will get them in the ground this week. Right now most of my time is spent mowing maple leaves for mulch for my existing gardens and to put in the new lasagna beds for next year. All my hostas are long gone, how about yours. Besides my evergreens, the only plants that still look good are my solidago (actually still very green and flowers still look good) and my Heptacodium. The leaves are still pretty much green but are starting to get a tinge of purple in them.

How are your gardens doing, anything still look good? I see you are in zone 5 also.. which state?

I'm in zone 9, Northern California. I still have a few that think it is Summer, while most of the others are just getting yellow around the edges. I have another month of watching them go downhill before I can put them to bed under a tarp. Not a very exciting time in the hosta world, so time and energy go to cooking and needlework, and upcoming holidays.

Things will be slow around here until January when the new catalogs come out and we get to see what new ones are being offered.

Oh,I am so glad to see life over here,ha ha
Alexis717,every thing over my way is pretty much all yellow, the leaves on the trees are still pretty though, and the weather is wonderful, i am in zone 5,Illinois.
I will be busy with leaf racking next week,no worry about me having to cover my hosta, mother nature has alrady done that for me,ha ha
I have no idea what **solidago,0r Heptacodium are, they sound pretty though.:0)

    Hi Babka,
Nice to hear from you also, quiet til January huh?
Well, i guess i have plenty of time to read and do a few crafts then.I have no problem keeping busy.

    Carol,
I am just trying to complete all of those projects that need finished before winter. It is now dark when I get home from my day job and I have to use daylight wisely.I think the great weather is ending Thursday and that adds more pressure to get things completed in a timely manner. The forum usually picks up when the weather gets too bad to be outside. I think a lot of folks are in my shoes right now....

ZZZZZZ!! Nothing to write about any more. All hostas are gone to sleep here, and other projects are still left to do,but not planting anything. Only bought 7 hostas in 2008,and they are long since planted. It was a very dry year here, and isn't getting any wetter this fall. Nothing to do but home projects, like cleaning the garage, and putting up shelves, you know, the boring stuff! Phil

    Hi Carol,
Ive just been uber busy at work and home. Weve had some beautiful days this week and my new barberry bushes are just georgeous so Ive decided to add a few to my plans for next spring. My hostas are all sleeping but the licorice plants and alysum are hanging on. I wish this was spring!!!

It has been quiet but not as bad as the Minnesota garden. forum. No action there. Our leaves are off the trees and all other plant life has been frosted. SNOW coming in a day or two. There's a nearby nursery that is having a 50% off sale on plants. They have hosta Americana and Beckoning left at $5.00 each. good deal? or too late to plant even if I bury the pots and mulch well?

Good deal and it is never too late. I've planted all 12 months of the year with about the same result, sometimes you lose one.

The gardens are sleeping, but not me.
Have been working outside as I fear soon I can't. Cleaning up and working in the garage in hopes of getting a car into it this winter. Put a few Christmas lights out today.. OOOOPS! some might not like to hear that.
But it was 60 out and I won't do it when it turns frigid!
    Great deal on the plants!!
Buy a few and use them for trading next year! I don't have either!

I've been working outside getting my many gardens ready for winter. I like to do as much as possible in the fall as spring is so intense getting all winter blown in debre off before the plants get too big.

We had such nice weather for a few days but today it is rainy. We do need rain here so I'm not complaining. WE haven't had a really killing frost here yet or at least not in my more sheltered yard so some things are still green.
