Snow damaged boxwood

I have a large boxwood hedge that was about 3 feet high and probably about 3 feet wide. The heavy snow has caused the boxwood to splay out and when I knocked the snow off, it didn't bounce back. The centre of the hedge is just woody stems, no green.

The hedge was overgrown for the area anyway and I would like to cut it back severely (to about half height) which would be right back into the woody stems. Will it resprout or am I wasting my time and should just pull it out and plant new? If it will resprout from the old wood, when should I do this?
