strange pink goo on soil

I have several self-watering containers with tomato plants near the south side of the house, and on one of them there is a strange pink goo on top. I did not notice it yesterday when I was tending the garden, so I think it is quite new. At first it looks like someone tossed chewed bubble-gum on top of the soil, but on closer look it looks like bubbles or bumps of pink spray foam. When I poked at it with a rock, thick pink liquid came out, sort of like wet puffy paint. I know the description is odd, but I can't think of a better way to describe it. I tried searching this forum and the web, but can't find anything like it yet. I really don't even know what to call it to look for it. It is really weird! Does anyone have any idea what it is? Any suggestions are appreciated.

Well, I took a picture, but can't seem to upload it. It seems to me that the directions indicate you can only upload pics in the first message, not follow ups? (Is that right? Maybe I misunderstood - sorry!) I think i might be rude to start a new thread for the pic, so I am attaching a link to a pic that looks similar - it is like the gunk in the fifth picture (the pink one). I think it is something called pink slime mold, that seems to grow on bark mulch a lot. It has been unusually rainy here, so it fits the circumstances. If it is the slime mold, all the info so far indicates it is fairly harmless, and won't hurt the tomatoes. I'd appreciate any confirmation, other suggestions, or comments. Supposedly, it will die on it's own when the weather dries a bit, but I plan to get rid of it anyway!

P.S. I'd appreciate if anyone can tell me how to post the pic I have so I can ask if anyone knows if it really is that slime mold. Yuck!

Well, if you can't upload, you could post the URL now in the "Optional Link" box when you reply.

I was going to respond slime mold. So if what you have is what's seen in the page you linked to, that's it. Or one very similar to it.

If so,not a problem.

Thanks jean001! I appreciate your confirmation that it won't be a problem. I was worried about eating any tomatoes from that plant! That stuff just seems like it couldn't be good for you!

I don't have the pic online, so won't try to post unless the stuff doesn't follow the description of how the slime mold changes color and such. If it doesn't seem to fit, i'll try again.

I have the same under my rosemary. Literally just sprung up overnight. What can I do to remove it? Is it harmful?

I also started to see this same stuff on my blueberry plant. I removed it but it seems to keep showing back up. I am reading it is not harmful?

Slime molds come in a wide variety of colors and forms. Google has all kinds of interesting information on these organisms. You will soon learn that they are not harmful.
