Need BASIC rooting advice (stimulator/water/tips?)

Hi all, I've been quite fortunate getting cuttings to root in plain old water but, on the advice of a friend, bought a bottle of Wilson Liquid Root Stimulator. What I'm having a hard time finding answers online for is:

Once I've dipped the cutting and planted in a rooting mix (Peat, etc...) do I just water and care for normally? Do I over-water? I see some advice about covering the cutting with an inverted pop bottle or plastic- is this necessary?

Has anyone ever simply added root stimulator to water and rooted without peat/soil?
