are we rotten? help

Hi, I am a relatively new resident in HCMC, Vietnam, a frangipani lover for many years, but an uneducated one. We bought quite a large plant in a pot (probably about 0.5-1m high, no flowers) for the paved area around our house. We've had it a couple of weeks, all looked fine and now it looks dreadful/like it's dying. They repotted it when we bought it, so maybe that in itself is an issue. It is in an area where it would get both direct sunlight and air but we are in rainy season here, so also tropical downpours. The leaves have started falling off and it has gone a dark browny black colour towards the end of the stalks/ it's sort of weeping. There does appear to be a new leaf trying to still push through but as mentioned, it looks just terrible. I've been searching around, reading many interesting things and my whole world has been broadened to this cyberland of gardening and specifically frangipani junkies, so I'd really love some advice please. From what I've read, maybe it is rotting?? Should we start emotionally preparing to say goodbye? Should we just leave it? Should we move the pot? (eg. we could put it on the verandah so it doesn't get the downpours, or we could try and put it in a more direct sunny position- we have it next to a wall- should we pull it away from the wall?) Should we try and dry it out in some way? Should we try and get something to spray it with (although that will be very difficult here). Any and all suggestions most welcome. Many thanks, ali
