I like the clean look of it, maybe simple add a shallow Stainless Steel Shelf?

Tile shops sell mosaics that can be framed (think of it like a picture frame), and installed on top of your existing tile. It would give that extra detail that you are looking for. That also eliminates the cost of redoing tile, as it's applied to the surface.

I would leave space blank and add kitchen goodies to sides of stove top - Look for gorgeous ceramic vase and add great kitchen utensils - so many cute/neat/fun/interesting spoons, turners, forks whisks - you can create interest - also, some unique bowls - stacked in kitchen accent colors in front of the electrical outlets - a plant that adds pop - not too bushy - choose one whose leaves will stand out against the cream colored tile - or a granite cutting board - also like Italian plates/platters on stands - experiment with some artsy pieces from Homegoods - some many choices - too little space!

I would look for something like a flat open metalwork accessory...check out Pier 1.
