Tropical Plants

info about Importing plants

Can anyone guide me on what to do before buying a plant from outside the USA? The exporter says that he will provide the necessary phytosanitary documentation. DO I need to apply for a agricultural import permit? Who do I need to contact for clearance? I live in TX and the exporter can ship the plant to my adress.

It is usually cost prohibitive for 1 plant and most won't bother to ship for one plant.

You need to apply for an import permit thru APHIS and the nursery the plant is coming from will(should) obtain the phyto for their country.

The permit you need is free and you will have to send copies of the permit along with the decals they provide to the nursery. The cost for the phyto depends on the country.
