I second that and raise the issue of keep adding bedding along with food. The book may not stress that. Outside in AZ I would look for some double shade and some way to insulate the bin like a rubbermade bin in the shade kept extra damp perhaps dug into the ground. Do air conditioners drip there? If so maybe park it next to that so the ground will evaporatively cool. Not sure how much kitchen scraps one senior citizen can generate other than a few potato peels, carrot peels, one tea bag and one banana peel. She may find it convenient or an enjoyable part of the process to either put the kitchen scraps in a food processor, blender or especially I suggest she might like best freezing them in a freezer bag or wrapped in a bit of newspaper. Note that often beginners have their bin turn south in a few months since they remember to feed it but not to add bedding. Oh, and tell her egg shells whole or crushed are fine. The cardboard egg cartons and paper towel rolls are fine. She can tear them up a bit. Try to stay away from junk mail since sometimes plastic like paper hides in there and office paper for a beginner. I think it tends to garbage up the works and make it look unappealing.
