They do look a bit like orchid flowers, quite small though. They were on the property when I bought it. The previous owner told me they were a sweet variety, that he got the seeds from Vietnam. A neighbour later told me the seeds came from an older tree near the front gate. When they started fruiting I found they had that same old Tamarind taste I was used to, nothing sweet about it at all.

Do you have worm in the pods issue without using pesticide? I remember seeing all the pods in Mexico had worms. I believe the commercial growers all use pesticide to get around the issue and this makes me think twice before buying the fruits in the markets.

Never seen or heard of any kind of worm/larvae infesting the pods. Maybe it's the larvae of a Mexican insect that doesn't occur elsewhere, certainly not here.

Very nice; do you do anything in particular to get them to fruit? We have one at home that my mother grew from seed a few years ago and it's quite tall now (10-15 ft) but although it flowered a lot last year only a few fruit are on it.

I have about 30 - 40 trees ranging in height from around 10 metres to 3 metres. Some are in full sun all day and some in a lot of shade. The shadier ones don't really produce flowers/fruit. Even so, not all the ones in full sun flower or fruit either. Could be because they're all seed grown which usually means variable quality trees. They don't get any attention at all, though I should give them some water during our dry season. Some of them get quite stressed.

Yes!!! the flowers are tasty. I remember, as a child, eating the flowers and tender leaves with a bit of salt and chilli powder. Yumm indeed
