Where in the United States are you?
This could be one of a number of grasses depending on where you are.

I live in Louisville, Ky. I planted Tall Fesque last Fall in one area of my backyard and now there are around 50 of these weeds in that area.

Put that in a sealable plastic bag and take it to your local office of your University of Kentucky Cooperative Extension Service where they should be able to identify what you have and give advice on how to eliminate it.

I am just digging it up by hand, and I think it came from weed seeds that were in the straw, that I used to cover the seed I planted last Fall. I will never use straw again, when planting grass seed.

Hi Betty: You are exactly right. I have the same thing. I planted fescue and covered with hay straw, and that is the seed in the straw that has germinated. It will die out when the weather turns hot. No need to spray or even dig out. Let nature take care of it.
