If you were in FL i would say 'crystal palmaraion (sp), Papaya. in Ca i would say CA gold (cannibus) lol if it's easy to pull up its not a weed :)

It looks rather like a castor bean plant, reported to repell moles, but is a highly toxic plant. Can get to be huge.

LOL Giventake. I hope it's not cannibis. I'd hate to think the people that package that bird feed are trying to get them high. On a side note, my wife and I both noted the similarities, but I don't think "grass" leaves are quite that big.

Rhizo, there are similarities there as well, but it looks like that castor bean plant has more lobes than this sucker. It's just weird to me. We've never seen anything quite like it. I guess I'm assuming it came out of the bird seed though. I just can't imagine what else it would have sprouted from.

One other thing I noticed is, the leaves are spread wide open during the day, but "close up" some at dusk. Not all the way, but they're noticeably more vertical than horizontal. I thought that was odd as well.

Sorry folks, it's giant ragweed. Birds spread the seeds because they love them so much. This is one of the two ragweeds that cause many people to sneeze and have watery eyes. I am sorry that I don't know the latin name.

I recognized it immediately. My dad was a true bird nut. No plant that could be of use to his birds could be cut before it seeded. Since we lived in the country during the fifty's & sixty's there was no problem with the weed patrol. I think I disliked it most because if one grew near the house it couldn't disappear and in September it was part of our chores to cut and stack the the plants so his birds would have wild feed and shelter during the winter. I was chuckling so hard when I posted that after the fact I realized I sounded downright rude. Double sorry to everyone.

We also have many many of those here in rural Illinois. We have always called them "itchweed". I know they make me itch when I pull them up.
Very annoying fellows they are.
