Recently my neighbor had a severe fly problem in her garden. We had flies everywhere. When she went to weed her garden she kept finding this weed there - at first we thought it was fly eggs but of course that would not flower. It had some leaves around the base and shot straight up into a red thing that resembled a carrot or a pepper. When dug up it had a white bulb base to it. The flies loved it. There must have been fifty flies on every plant, even after they were dug up. These things were sporadic and growing under every plant. COuld it have been indigenous to the mulch that she had there? They were not found in the grass and yet were in the middle of the lawn where there was a larger plant and more in the middle of our patios where she had another plant - the common area of all being red mulch. Any ideas?
