Overwinting questions.

I have several plants that I never got around to finishing the beds for to plant. Can they be kept in the garage over winter? Small hosta, small hydrangea, roses, rose of sharon, lavender, confederate rose small rooted cutting, and hardy hibiscus small rooted cutting. I am installing florecsent lights and can put a heater in there if needed. Would any of these be better off outside? I will have the beds done by spring but the shrubs have to be taken out and the guy hasn't come to do it yet. One will be full sun the other shade.

The hosta can stay outside. I've had mine in pots for three years and they do fine outside year around. Hosta's do best outdoors they need the cold to go dormant, this type of plant does best in the north where the ground is frozen for months. In the spring when you start to see new growth give it some fertilizer.
Mine do best in pots than in the ground.

THanks, I was wondering about the hosta. I knew they normally stayed out in the ground but wasn't sure about the pot. So I won't worry if it dies back then.
