white cabinets? very dark brown? black? help!

I am planning a master bath and driving my contractor crazy because I keep changing my mind. I am presently thinking glass tile in the shower in shades of green and/or blues (all water colors in the bathroom) The shower floor is green pebbles, the bathroom floor is pale watery blue tile. The counters are going to be chroma in sea or surf from 3-form (3-form.com). I'm getting glass vessel sinks from a glass artist that will be shades of blue and green. My original thought was white shaker style cabinets that had only a plain raised border on the doors. Then I thought that the chroma was very modern and I should be using sleeker dark totally plain cabinets. Anyone with an opinion?

I love white shaker style cabinets, in bathrooms or kitchens or anywhere really. Picturing your bathroom as you describe it, I would probably go with exactly your original thought. When I think of the sea, I think of pale crisp colors, the blue greens and the white of the caps on the waves and maybe a sand color. While white shaker isn't perfectly "modern" in style (like a slab door might be), I do think it is contemporary and can fit in nicely with modern materials. While it is just my opinion, a dark cabinet would really draw the eye and overwhelm the soft lovely sea colors. I would stick with white or maybe a pale wood color. As to the style of the door, I think either sleek modern slab or shaker could easily fit in with a modern material like chroma. While I probably wouldn't do an ornate traditional door, shaker style or slab are both sleek and contemporary. In my opinion, your original instincts were spot on. Good luck with your choices and I look forward to seeing the finished product.

I love white shaker style cabinets, but based on the description of everything else, I think it might be best to go with a sleeker cabinet. Dark would be good, but so would white. Can't wait to see pictures of it when it's done.

Thanks for the opinions. I asked an artist friend of mine and she said white too. So it's white and one less decision to obsess over!

One thing I've found very helpful during our renovation was Houzz.com. I went through all the bathroom photos, and added anything I liked for any reason to an ideabook. Then later, when I was struggling to find what I liked I went back through my ideabook and started looking for things the photos had in common. Many things I never even realized I like emerged from looking through the photos I had saved. For instance, I tried three different paint colors (actually painted the entire bathroom in them) in search of the perfect blue-gray because that's what I thought I wanted. Then I went through my saved ideabook and noticed that almost every bathroom I liked had off-white walls. Who knew?

I adore Houzz. I have a collection of bathroom pictures and I have shown them to my contractor. It was a big help.
Chroma is something i found on Houzz. It is a recycled acrylic that is being made in Utah. I am waiting to get a sample before I make the final choice. It is translucent and I think is exactly what I want.

I will post pictures if I ever finish this bathroom and the adjacent hall bath!

They give you quotes on the phone at 3-form. It comes in sheets either 4x8 or 4x10 feet and either 1" or 1/2" thick. Then you have to pay shipping from Utah. I'm going with 1/2" and, while I don't have the written estimate, I think it's going to be less than the mid-grade stone and less than the glass counter tops I have considered.
