How do you clean the shower floor? I love this look, but I wonder about hair & other ickyness building up underneath the wood?

Many cedar and wood application like this, are removable. Meaning the wood usually sits on a grate or a raised surface below, but over the drain. Therefore the wood could be picked up. Remember the drain has to be accessible in some way if need be, so there has to be a way for it be removed.

The answer above is correct - the wood floor is constructed like a deck - that is, it sits above the shower floor and the boards are spaced apart so that the water flows through to the drain below. The entire floor can be picked up (in two pieces) to access the drain and to clean the shower.

How does the wood have to be treated so that the water does not damage the wood over time? is it better to use Cedar or Teak?

We used ironwood, also known as Ipe. You can simply treat it with oil (like a butcher block counter) depending on the wood type. It will take a bit of maintenance - oiling it once/year for example.
