messed up pulls

The carpenter who put the drawer pulls on my gorgeous new vanity really messed up the job. One is so lopsided it almost looks like it's not attached on one side. The others are lopsided enough that when you look at them, you wonder "Is it me, or...?" There are also now scratches on one drawer. My husband, who typically shrugs off the details, thinks it looks like a complete mess.

From what I've read on this topic in other threads, such things really can't be fixed well. I think the drawer fronts will need to be replaced.

Given the situation, would you expect that all drawer fronts be replaced, or just the one with the really obvious problem? My husband and I both think they all need to be replaced (it really does look off), but maybe our expectations for straight pulls are out of line? :-)

How many homes have you walked into and said "hmm, those drawer pulls are on crooked?" None, right? That's because they are suppose to be straight and it's not that hard to get them straight.

I would insist they be made right, including the scratches. If new drawer fronts is what it takes, then insist on it. You don't have to be a -itch about it, just say "the drawer pulls were not put on properly and they have to be fixed". Do NOT say "we think the the pulls ..." or get into a situation where you are defending your case. They are wrong and they need to be fixed.

With new cabinets you should be able to replace just the damaged fronts instead of all of them. I replaced some slab maple cabinet doors on my new kitchen install and the replacements were perfect matches to the existing. They were KraftMaid.
Whenever you install pulls, take the time to make a drill template that locates the holes exactly the same on every door or drawer.

A good finisher should be able to make the repair of the previous holes disappear.

Are they stain-grade? Paint?

Good news!

My contractor fixed the pulls. I don't know how he did it, and I don't really want to know. He also told me that he would replace any drawer fronts that I felt needed replacing. The handles now look straight, and I have to look closely to see the scratches. I'm going to let it go.

Especially because he then did the kitchen pulls himself, taking the carpenter who did my vanity pulls off that job. Darn right! :-)
