Sounds to me like he screwed up drilling the holes in the tile. Replacement should be on the his dime.

He definitely caused the cracks when drilling like millworkman says. I am contemplating installing a wall hung porcelain soap dish on my ceramic tiled wall myself because GC wants $75 to do it. I wanted to save some money, after seeing this post perhaps I should reconsider.

Yeah, he needs to remove the door and replace the tile. And be more careful tightening the screw next time.

Best thing to do is to drill the holes in the tile before the tile is installed. We learned this the hard way - more than once!

I am fairly certain they have worked something our in the 7 years since they originally posted the issue.

I would hope they have figured something out, but other people still currently use older discussion post the find solutions..
