Dining Chairs "Before" - Need advice/opinions!

I scored all 6 of these solid wood chairs on Kijiji for $50 and want to paint or stain and reupholster them and am at a loss! The dining table is a black "distressed" look and as these chairs are such an intricate shape, I would like to do something to "casualize" them a bit. I'm not sure if cream would be too stark against the dark table, but I feel to paint them black might be a bit too much! Or should I stain them a rich brown? Also, what about upholstery fabric? Any thoughts would be appreciated!

Wow. Good score! I actually like the color of these wood chairs. How about a funky or chevron design fabric for the chairs and see what you think before you decide to paint? Find a fabric you love, it may change your paint color idea too. But, I vote sprucing up the wood.

Thanks Darzy! I was thinking a chevron might give it that more modern feel. I also wonder about only using four of these chairs and swapping out the end chairs for something else?

Like the Chippendales...they would look great painted white, red, black yellow, but here is an interesting photo and the color is more a BM Grant Beige with the dark table. Whatever you chose, you scored!

I see red...deep, yet bright red chairs.

I do like the idea of a deep red. Does anyone have any paint colour recommendations? Right now our home really leans toward the earth tones, which I would love to get away from and start moving toward lighter walls and more "crisp" brighter accents and I think the dining nook is a good place to start the process!

can't find it in my color deck by BM - i'm surprised - that its not there. But i do have habenero pepper which is an orangey red - which would look great with that black table you have. and the lemon sorbet for your walls in that nook.

What a wonderful find! So many possibilities!

I personally like judyg's BM Grant Beige or perhaps a distressed grey.

I adore the attached fabrics .

What a steal! I would stain them either a very dark brown, or a black. You can stain them in a way to give them a slightly weathered look to match your table. I would swap the beige cushions with more modern fabrics. I am a fan of prints, but a solid colour would also work great!

Great chairs and great ideas! If the wood is REAL you can change your mind for generations.

I like both BM Hot Tamale and judyg's BM Chili Pepper with the fabric judyg posted.

Thanks so much! Off to look up the colour samples! Yes, they are real wood, so I know they can forgive me if I go wrong! :) I'm really liking the red idea, or perhaps the distressed grey. Little nervous about the upholstery part of it, but for $60 and probably another $100 or so in fabric, the committment is fairly small. (thanks for the coupon link Aja).

I would stain the chairs in the same color stain as the table. The zebra fabic on the chair insideout sent along with the others are all great upholistering choices.
