HELP...Miele offer....Must Decide Immediately

I haven't had an opportunity to actually see the Miele dishwashers in person, but I've sure read on this board how happy so many are with theirs. I noticed in the other thread that the models are changing and wanted to jump on it.

I emailed around my area today and and found one local authorized dealer who still has these two left to offer:

Optima

Still in the box G2472SCI for $1650

LaPerla II

Less than one month as a Floor Model: G2872SCSFSS for $1900

What do you think, which would you get?

I think it might be a Optima "G2472SCVI" which you would have to install a custom door panel and handle on it, or buy the Miele stainless door panel and Miele handle. You might want to double check on that one.

The LaPrela II G2872SCSFSS comes with the stainless door and handle already installed. It retailed for about $2800-ish, so for $1900 that is really the best deal between the two.

Last year I purchased the Diamante Plus G2143SC and it was $1450. But if I didn't, and was looking to buy this year, the LaPerla for $1900 I would jump at. But at the same price, or less, you can buy a new Futura Dimension model that has the updated baskets and 3D Cutlery Tray. So then it's a bit of a toss-up between the LaPerla II floor model, or a new Futura Dimension, as the LaPerla II would be the top tier of the older models, but the Futura Dimension would have the different basket designs.

But since the LaPerla II been out as a floor model, you should check it out and make sure it's not damaged, dented, or scratched. They told you it was a floor model for less than on month? That sounds a bit odd to me, since the newer Futuras are being installed in dealer showrooms right now. Why would a dealer install a LaPerla on the floor when they know it's going to have to be sold for less money just a few weeks later, and also pulled out so a Futura can go in its place?

Thanks for your input. I guess I'll find out more in the morning. The store just opened a month ago, one of a chain in this area. I've been told that the floor model is in "great condition". IF it is, we'll give it serious consideration.

I really have no idea between the new baskets and old one, are the newer one that much better?

The lower basket is laid out different and the cutlery tray has movable parts. You can check out the picture I took in the link below.

Thanks for the link. By the way...does your dishwasher do a good job of drying? I am moving up from a Whirpool which has never dried a piece of flatware in it's life. I am sick of wet stuff.

I have used the Miele brand dishwasher detergent Tabs, Rinse Aid, and Salt, and pretty much everything comes out dry except for plastic tupperwear containers. Also, bottoms of cups or glasses that are concave will have some standing water in that area. The unit uses condensation drying, where most other brands use a heated drying with a heat element at the bottom. I have recently stopped using the Miele Tabs because I was getting a lot of suds with their new formulation. I've now used Method Smarty tabs for a few weeks, and they clean just as well and without the suds.

If you are concerned about the best possible dry - consider the La Perla. The La Perla, which opens the door automatically when dishes are dry, is supposed to dry better than the Optima.

I bought a brand new Optima a few weeks ago for 40% off.

What I do, when the machine beeps that it is complete, I crack the door open myself.

I had the option of buying the La Perla but it has more sensors than the Optima and with the automated door I was concerned about "more to go wrong".

So far I really like it. It takes a little getting used. I've been mostly using the China/Crystal setting which is less hot and much shorter than Normal and everything comes out clean and shiny. Plastic items are slightly wet and concave areas in mugs etc. If you place mugs just right they might be dry.

    Good luck!

Update! We're getting the LaPerla (pending inspection)!!
I feel pretty confident about the "floor model" machine. This store location opened in July, one of several locations of a local, high-end appliance dealer with whom we've done business with before. The store received the DW new when it opened. It was on display 3 weeks before the new models replaced it on the floor. It comes with full manufacturer's warranty. They had this one and 2 new in the box Optimas still left, however the Optimas are panel-ready, which we didn't want.

Pretty sure this is a good deal, I'll update after we inspect it. I would never have caught this deal without the head's up from this forum! Thanks!

That's good to hear, the LaPerla II G2872SCSFSS for $1900 is about a $800-900 discount. If it was still new in box, it would probably be only a $200-300 discount. But they can discount more since it's been on the floor and displayed, even if it was only for a few weeks.

Have you gone to the store to look at it yet? If they have any of the Futura models on display, then you can compare the different basket designs.
