You seem to have a real eye for decor as your buffet and tablescapes are understated but attractive. I agree with Aggie Designs that curtain panels would complete the room. I like the idea of a neutral with an accent band of color...perhaps the green found in your earthenware green urn.

It looks nice and casual except for the chandy, which is a great contrast, but you might want to try a drum chandy or something that casts more light on the dining table itself. Yes, drapery panels would help a lot. I think you need to find an accent color you love, maybe something a bit brighter and warmer for drapes. If that is an area rug I'm seeing, you might want to pick up the bright accent there too. Just keep it 24" bigger than your table on all sides. There are a few decor items I think have come to the end of their "run" and runners are one of them. I prefer a bare wood surface.

Great bones and you are certainly off to a great start ! I think your room is just a little more elegant than casual.I agree that drapery would be a nice addition for your space. Perhaps you could jazz up the sconce wall with either a photo collection in place of your very nice decorative piece and perhaps a casual style chair such as a wicker parsons chairs on either side below the sconces. A second option is you could find a salvaged antique fireplace mantel instead of the photo collection and paint it a soft cream to create a cozy feel in the room and build a box inside it that you could fill with battery operated candles (as I see you have little ones they are safer than real candles). I like the size of your mirror but if you find one with a slightly less thicker frame and in a finish such as a pewter or a patinaed gold to contrast your wood finishes on the hutch, table and chairs and that would relate back to your beautiful chandelier.
I think it would be nice to incorporate some art that speaks to you as well. You could either forgo the mirror and have a large art piece over the hutch or depending on the height of the mantel you could have a couple of smaller pieces of art casually leaned on the wall over it as well or one larger piece hung over it.

I would work with the glitsy chandalier and add a set of rich drapes in a color. You may be looking for a "pop" and a set of rich colored velvet or silk drapes would add that. Although I like the mirror, you could change it to one that is more glitsy, it will help to incorporate the chandelier and add some contrast.

Like your tones - agree regarding panels (keep 'em light) - centerpiece without runner - and a vase with twigs/arrangement on chest under metal art

Your room has a great start! I agree with all who suggest draperies, and perhaps, since all the furniture is dark, bring in some color from adjoining rooms. The chandelier adds a perfect spark of luxury to a "casual" room, so what about some silk draperies? But in a stripe or plaid to be on the more casual side. Or a simple linen, but add some pattern! (There are some wonderful patterned linen/cotton blend draperies at West Elm that might suit your room!) I love Sandra's idea about the mantel - it's such a wonderful way to add architectural interest & have a place to display other items, but it doesn't take up much room with a slender profile. On your buffet, maybe put a lamp where your vase sits, and move the vase over in place of the candlesticks (since table has many candles already). That would give you another light source in the room. Lovely room, just add some softness (draperies) and color, since everything in the room now is in shades of brown. And rivers300 idea for a pretty plant in the room also adds life to it! Have fun!

Your room looks very nice. I love the wall color , dining set and everything on the walls.You could remove the high chair and the pony and the ottoman to the right. Under the medal hanging art piece, you could add another table and place the candles from the table on it . Place potted plants in the corner by the window (snake plant grows straight up and don't require a lot of light). I would add panels with tan, brown and maybe green , red or rust in them. I would change the table runner to something with more color in the choices given. On top of the runner add a vase of flowers or a small plant and a group of 2-3 candles.

Your beautiful chandelier adds sparkle to the room, I like the suggestion of silk curtains to go with the sparkling chandelier, perfect!

Love your room! Ready made drapes are available in 96" length which would look good framing the window. You could add a pop of color by painting that wall only. I agree a painting would lighten up your wall with the sconces & add more color.

Thanks for all the great ideas! I have the Eagan mirror from Pottery Barn that I will be using above the hutch. It will look great with the chandy. Then, I saw a horse print from Ballard designs to use where the metal art is, which should brighten up the room. And I will do the curtains everyone recommended:).

You have great decorative items. What about rotating the mirror and getting two tall candlesticks for the table? That might give the setting some height. Window panels will look great

what about 2 upholstered chair with a fun geometric or large scale print? Or maybe a bench on the opposite wall from hutch with fun fabric??

I also like the room overall. The room is very "warm" with iron and wood. The sparkly chandy gives you the opportunity to accessorize with some sparkly accents to "brighten" up the space. It's a bit heavy now (not a bad thing) but I think what you're trying to do is brighten it up, and mirror, glass accessories will do that. Drapes of course are a great suggestion. Keep them light in color and use fabrics such as silk/poly taffeta - they're so pretty and elegant.

It is a nice room, and agree that it is heavy, I'd choose a mirror with a thinner frame, and a larger piece of art on the opposite wall, something with more color, and some drapes. Though I see the high chair and understand that drapes are just wall kleenex with kids in the house.

I love your room and the chandelier. You might want to consider off-white or white covers for your chairs to lighten things up. Also I'll change out the dark vase for something lighter on the buffet. Adding oversized drapes in a light color would brighten the room too.

Perhaps you could stencil a pattern on the walls with one shade lighter or darker than your current paint color? I agree with the curtain idea. Very nice start!

It is a beautiful room. I see baby furniture. A valance or drapes ( Moroccan red or deep mustard yellow ) would create an instant change. A dark metal drapery rod would be easiest, but a large dark wood cornice would add texture. I would go wall to wall with the wood and at least 12" outside the window trim giving the illusion of a larger window and not reducing the incoming light. Add personalize photos or artistic pictures maybe from the baby/sand put them in large frames for both sides of the window. My preference would be black or red silhouettes or hand and foot prints) I would replace the baseboard with TALLER ones with detail, if you do not use floor length drapes. There are other ways to create this look with out removing the current baseboards. Paint a matching white border or add a textured printable wallpaper trim, add a smaller trim to finish the look and paint it all the same color. I love the feeling of a chandelier, I would not add candelabra shades. It could add the feeling of heaviness or clutter, though it may give directional lighting.

I love your dining room. It looks inviting and calm. All you need now are window treatments. I would suggest a nice elegant fabric with a large but simple pattern that adds a wow factor but doesn't take away from the calm feeling your dining has.

I agree with the suggestions of the window treatments. On the wall opposite of the credenza I would add 2 palm tree plants on plant stands flanking either side of the art/sconces. I would also add a long wooden shelf (matching the wood of the table). Topped with bar accessories or other large nic-naks.
(If you add plant lights on timers to the plants,drama will be easily added for evening dinners). I think these few things could add a lot of life, texture and color.

This is so pretty. I think an accent would help whether it is color or bling or texture. It can be drapes or accessories or a collection of prints on the wall. Maybe a bit of pattern somewhere.

I think some crown moulding would add an amazing amount of character as well as make room feel more elegant and special. Draperies that are much wider on sides of windows will make them seem even larger and also hang higher than the window trim to add height
