Is it typical to have a visible upper and lower seam in a sofa seat cushion? The two sofas I currently own do not have any outside seams. They're invisible.

Yes this is typical. It makes the cushion look more like a box and less like a balloon. You're finding a problem where one doesn't exist; don't worry about it. Look at some more stores, you'll see most removeable cushions are like this. Good luck!

It's refreshing to see someone who agrees that the welting isn't attractive. So, i disagree with this comment. It's like putting belt loops on ALL pants when CLEARLY we ALL do NOT wear belts. Our society is quickly moving away from STANDARD ACCEPTANCE! Telling someone to NOT worry about it is dated, immature, lacks innovation/creativity & is narrow-minded!

i agree. I choose to not have to battle with the forever wavering lines of welting.

Not sure what you mean by invisible seams, maybe you can post a photo. Now their are cushions that the seams are only around the sides with one piece of fabric wraps around on 3 sides: top - front - bottom. So their are no seams on the front of the cushions.

That is the easiest and least expensive way a manufacturer can sew a cushion. btw

Over the years I've had both types - with welted seams and without. I find the welted seams look more finished and professionally made; but also have worn well. It seems the more rounded edges (those without welts) show more wear over time. Don't understand why since you would think because the welts stick out more they would wear out faster, but they don't.
