Ive always had good luck with Maytag dryers in the top of the line electronic drying machines. First one lasted me 17 years without even a bad belt, and I simply retired it for a newer one, which Ive had for the last 5 years. There seems to be very little changed in them for eons. Now washers are a different matter as they seemed to loose some durability in favor of cheaper build to compete with the global economy. Now they are owned by Whirlpool so hopefully some of those issues will be resolved. I wouldnt be afraid to buy a Neptune rear control dryer even several years old. Simply great machines properly operated.

Very interested in this outcome as we've pretty much settled on buying the Maytag Ensignia MDE4658AYW dryer. The price is right, and it's not too large for the space we have for it. Unless we stumble across a whole lot of negatives(which we haven't been able to find), we'll probably order it tomorrow.

Frostlich, I looked at the model on the Sears site and liked that it was a Quiet Pack 200. The ones at Lowes and Home Depot are Quiet 100. Don't know how much difference it makes in the house, but I imagine some. Other than that they look pretty similar. Do you think the sensor, Itellidry, is an important feature? I'll go look at it today (I like to kick the tires). Please let me know what you decide.

flaamy, I have not idea the difference between the 2 Quiet Pack versions.

Based on what I've read, and only what I've read, when the subject of moisture sensing/intellidry(whatever the maker calls it)comes up, I'm told it's better to have it than not. Personally, I wouldn't let it be a deal breaker for me either way, but I'd rather have it than not.

The other thing I like about Sears right now is that they've got free delivery after mail in rebate, and only a !10 old appliance removal charge. I'm not Lowe's/Home Depot are offering the same, but none of the local competitors seem to be.

I have had my Maytag Neptune dryer for nearly 8 years with no problems yet. It works great, the clothes come out unwrinkled (even 100% cotton blouses) using low heat and the perma press cycle, and I am very pleased with the moisture sensor.

Previous to that, I had a GE dryer which I was not very pleased with. The moisture sensor went bad in a very short time and I was never happy with how the clothes came out of the dryer, much more wrinkled that with the Maytag.

I do like the moisture sensor as I donÂt have to guess at the drying times. I donÂt think I would buy one without it.

I forgot to mention, my Maytag dryer is MUCH quieter than my GE was!

Just a quick follow up. Yesterday we installed the Maytag model 4658 dryer to go with my existing LG Tromm washer. I like the results so far...wonderful combination for me at least.

Frostlich, I'm wondering how you like the dryer a few weeks later. Would you buy it again now that it's been in your house a while? Is it quiet, does it dry nicely?

I got distracted from my dryer shopping, but I plan to take a another look at this dryer at Sears and order it. That is, unless you feel I should reconsider!

All I'm going to say here is that the only time GE should really be considered for laundry is when you're looking to get a $300 dryer or so. If you're wanting something decent then get a maytag with sensor drying. I also highly recommend getting their service plan from sears if you can remember to call a tech out once a year to tune up the machine.

Still happy as a clam with the Maytag. It's quite compared to the Hotpoint I used to have(of course, anything is). Yes, it's reasonably quiet.

It still does a great job. Once again, I've got it coupled with an LG Tromm washer that does a good job too. I wouldn't hesitate to purchase either again(although some folks wouldn't touch the LG with a 10 ft pole due to service issues.)
