Try using Affresh in your washer. Use the sanitary cycle and max out the time along with stain treat. Maybe something got washed with a load of clothes at one point that was hidden in a pocket or something. Does it have a smell to it? (the lines) or feel like a oily substance? IM lost on this one as you are. Check inside of the gasket around the door, go all the way around it with a rag to make sure nothing got trapped in there. I too have a HE3T

Thanks for the quick help....No the stain doesn't feel different or appear to have a smell and it doesn't come out it does fade. I've tried to get the line stain out with bleach, spray & wash + other cleaners and sometimes directly on the stain.

Part of the problem seems that I don't know which is the offender. I bought something a bit ago to clean the inside of the washer. It didn't seem to help. I've ran a cloth all around the gasket with cleaner. But as I type I"m running the washer empty w/ Boarox, bleach and TSP. I even put some Boarox & TSP in the gasket. I'm running the load on Sanatary, extra hot & soak.

Dryer..... I wonder how I would take the drum apart? Sticking my head in the dryer.... I wonder if the felt strip in the front & back of the dryer drum has anything to do w/ the brownish/orange lines?

The next time you wash some white, before you put it in the dryer, throughly examine it before it goes in the dryer, I know this well take time, but then you might be able to isolate the machine that is causing the problem

The lines sound like rust to me, especially since you haven't been able to remove them with conventional remedies. You may want to check to see if anything is caught somewhere in the drum or gasket, like a paperclip. Clean out your pin trap too. Since your drum is stainless, it's not that, fortunately. The outer drum on your machine is a plastic, so not that either.
Try lemon juice and salt to remove stains, or a commercial one like Whink or Iron Out. If it works, you may consider running Iron Out through the machine after you find the culprit.

Where is the pin trap? And how do you clean it out?

I didn't find any paperclips or any other type of metal. I almost crawled inside the machine to check it out.

I'm at my wits end... I also get little pin holes/rips in clothes. I'm thinking I just might get a new washer.

I agree with aamassther, sounds like it may be rust. If it is rust, keep in mind that is set by chlorine bleach. There are products that remove rust, like Iron Out.

I had a similar problem years ago when I lived in an apartment. I noticed the rust stains on light colored clothing. Apparently my water heater was on its last leg, and was adding rust to the hot water. Unfortunately I didn't realize that was the problem until I found the water heater was also leaking.

Try taking a white cloth and holding it under a stream of hot water from your sink so the water flows through it - after a minute or two, check to see if there is any orange coloration. If so, you know that there is rust in your water supply.

If not, then maybe something metal is logged in your washer drum and rusting. If something rusty was in the pin trap of the washer, which is before the pump, I don't think the rust from it would reach up into the wash drum.

I have the same thing. I don’t know if it is the washer or the dryer. I have had repair guys come multiple times and change almost every part on both machines and I still have the issue. No idea what it is??
