I too, have a very small laundry room. My Samsung 338's are on pedestals and my washer is in a Mustee fiberglass durapan.

I cannot open the pedestal to the washer, but I would rather have the peace of mind knowing that if there is a leak I have some protection. There is no way to raise the washer and pedestal above the overflow panÂs lip.

I store my laundry supplies in the dryer pedestal. It is more than adequate space for laundry supplies provided you donÂt buy super sized containers. I have overhead cabinets for additional storage, but my FL machines stick out so much, I cannot easily reach the cabinets. So I definitely prefer to store my laundry supplies in the pedestal.

The height of the pedestals are such that you cannot store a very tall bottle of detergent inside; in fact, to get a standard size bottle of detergent inside of my pedestal drawer, I have to tilt the bottle sideways to get it under a lip on the top of the pedestal drawer (I donÂt know if all pedestals are designed this way). It took me a couple of days to figure that one out. But a super size container of detergent will definitely not fit in the pedestal drawer.

A warning about pedestals installation: if you decide to get pedestals, do NOT allow the delivery guys to turn your machines upside down to install the pedestals. The manufacturers are now starting to tell the dealers to stop flipping the washers as it can throw the tub out of alignment, or they can set it down too hard (or worse, drop it) and do other damage to the machine.

Even after SamsungÂs rep paid a visit to my local LoweÂs and told them to stop flipping the washers, the delivery guys still tired to tell me it was ok to flip it if the shipping bolts were in place. They flipped my dryer before I had a chance to stop them and I refused delivery on it. LoweÂs Delivery Manager argued with me and insisted Samsung only told them not to flip the washer. I told him the day he pays for my washer and dryer he can flip themÂuntil then, he ainÂt flipping anything IÂm paying for. LoweÂs Operations Manager agreed with me and they sent out a new dryer.

WeÂve only had the Samsungs since the first week of April, but so far they are working 100% as advertisedÂwe are more than pleased with these machines.

I am not a lawyer or insurance adjuster, but it occurs to me that if you local building codes ~require~ an overflow pan and you remove it, you may be at risk if you ever do have a water-related claim that involves your washer.

Might be worth checking into.
