I personally love my GE. I have it about a year now and no problems so far. Now if I had to do it again, though I would probably buy a FL with an internal heater, like the Duet. But this was my first FL'er and we were on a budget. I do not have the matching dryer. My dryer is a Kenmore Elite. Yes, the wash loads take longer, but because the clothes are dryer from the high spin of the FL, they don't take as long to dry. So it all seems to even out.

I wouldn't worry about the possibility of a sale. I personally don't think it'll happen, at least not for a long time.

But a lot depends on which model you're thinking about. The older FriGEmore isn't made by GE anyway, it's made by Frigidaire.

Don't get hung up on brand name. Many brands are made by different companies. Another example is the GE Harmony is made by LG Why would I be concerned if the company is sold if I'm buying either of these models?

Would need to know more about the models you're thinking about. Are they discontinued by GE or by the dealer? And be careful. Sometimes a sale price isn't a good deal when you look around.

We have a GE washer, after 2 years we needed a repair and it was hell to deal with their customer service and it took 8 weeks! until it was finally repaired. Horrible,horrible experience. We actually bought the extended warranty from home depot but hey just buy GEs warranty and you deal with GE when you need to use it. I can not recommend this company to anyone, ever. We had customer service be rude, yell at us and be completely incompetent.

gowelch, are these from Home Depot, by chance? The model appears to be the Adora and this is the newer front loader built in China. There's been mixed reviews on them and not a lot of reports recently. My personal opinion is that there's a lot of features for the money. I've been looking at this series along with some other options as I educate myself for my future purchase when I need to replace my washer. FWIW, I talked dealer in town about these and the Frigidaire Affinity and he preferred the GE. Said they had better service out of them, although they were both good units. I asked him about others and he said the Duet was another good model, although a lot more money.

The price has dropped on these washers. I see Sears selling them for around the same price or perhaps a bit less. But I also noticed Home Depot has a rebate going on them so that's something to look into. There's also an LG in this price range but I'm not sure if it has the heater or not. And sometimes you can find the Maytag Epic (sibling of the Duet) in the price range so that could be an option too.

Hopefully some people have this model and can comment on their experience. There's some old threads on the lines that you could read through. Some people who don't own them talk down on them, but you take that with a grain of salt. I haven't seen much to say that someone shouldn't consider them.

I am on my second set of GE Adoras. My first set I had went to my mother in law when I moved. They are now 3 years old, my current set is a year old. Both sets are doing well, and perform great. I'm not sure the model numbers on mine(and I'm too lazy to run downstairs and check, haha)-the ones my MIL inherited were nicer, they had the My Cycle option which my current one doesn't, but I usually do everything pretty much the same, with the exception of ds's linens. They were the only set in my price range that had the internal water heater which I use frequently as my youngest is disabled and we get a lot of bodily fluids on his clothing, so the sanitize feature is great. cynic - I found these discountinued models off GE website. I can't find much reviews on these models, so I wonder if they are good. I like the prices because they all are about 4.o cu.
ronniroo - does it take a long time to do a load of wash? what is the average amount of time?

my loads are usually around 1 hr 15 min. I don't usually pay too much attention, I set it, and forget about it till I hear it beeping at me (mine are in my basement). Before I got these, I used to always be waiting for my dryer to finish .. now it's the opposite, the dryer only takes around 40 minutes to dry, LOL. My daughter always does her clothes on speed wash and says they still come clean.. hers take around 40 minutes, but she's 20 years old and has a sit down job so no big stains or anything. I do all mine on standard cycles as I'm horrible in the kitchen and always have splatters on my shirts and the aforementioned disabled son loves to drool on me, heh.

Front loaders take longer. That's just the way it is. And keep in mind if you use the heater it will add time to it and if you use the hottest setting it will add significantly because it has to heat the water. An hour to two hours per load is very common on a front loader. Now if you get a top loader with a heater, it too will take a lot longer to heat the water.

A year or two ago there were several people buying this series of machines. Virtually all gave excellent reviews out of the gate but as far as long-term Ihaven't really seen much. Seems like the ones who got them aren't around anymore. That could mean they're very happy with them and chugging along washing away. I would think if they were irate with them, they'd be back to complain about them, wouldn't they? Unless they were banned or something. So, sometimes no news can be good news.

If you know any appliance repair people you could ask their opinions. Might even be worth a few phone calls around to some reputable repair shops and solicit their views. Wouldn't be gospel, but might give you some more to think about.

I purchased my GE frontloader from Lowes in February of 2007. It is now broken, as is stalls out in the rinse cycle, leaving my clothes soapy and soaking wet. The repairman is supposed to be here today. I will keep you posted.

I would be gun shy about any GE washing machine. I had a top load set. the dryer still lives on but the washer was toast after a bit over 4 years. the transmission failed and leaked oil on my floor. a repair man friend of the family told me to call GE since that part had a 10 year warranty. GE would not send the part to our repair man they had to install it and labor was not covered. They wanted to charge me $250 labor to install a part in a 4 year old washer that cost under 400 new and wanted 2 weeks to schedule it. On top of that they were not that nice to deal with either. I told them to shove it and got a Frigidaire FL when the GE finally locked up.

I hate this ge washer it has gave me nothing but Griief since day one,,,,,,, it will not stay balanced. We have had sears repairman to come several different times. They all say the same thing you need to add more clothes to make it balance. I started washing three bathroom rugs at 10am it was 830pm before I could get them to wash and spin. Never never in a thousand years will I ever have a ge product. Stay away or run away when you see this ge washer.

Absolutely NOT!!! I have had mine for a tad over 4 years so far I have had to replace the door gasket, $110.00 for the part only, now the basket won't turn nor will it spin. After contacting GE; they did call me back, but not until I contacted the BBB, they offered to pay for the part but I have to pay the labor. God only knows what that will cost. I just know I will not ever buy one GE again.

I have A 3 1/2 year old GE front loader washer $1,100. The drum just broke. Repairman said it would cost $800 in parts and $350 labor. He said just but a new washer. Called GE. My one year warranty is up, And your product has been discontinued. Now we know why. We can offer a 15% discount. I told them if them if they want to keep me as a GE customer I would take nothing less than 50% discount. They said that they would get back to me. The case

All frontloaders are subject to eventual failure of the drum support, although some brands seem a bit more susceptible than others. The rate of occurrence varies widely with several cause variables involved.
