sink placement

For the first time ever I will have room for a sink in my laundry room. I have 114" of space along one wall and the washer and dryer will take up 60" of this. This leaves me with 54" of space for base cabinets and a sink. I've already picked out the Mustee 25" wide durastone sink and I'm torn on the placement.

Some days I think it would be better to center the sink in the space and have work room of approximately 14" on each side. Other days I think it would be better to move it to the far left near the entry door and have a solid 29" of space between the sink and the washer. Since I've never had the luxury of a utility sink before I have no practical experience to draw on.

Any suggestions?

Here's an in-progress pic of my kitchen-to-laundry room conversion. We reused the kitchen sink location, but replaced lower cabinets, counter and sink (simple white laundry tub).

Such a luxury to have a sink near the w/d!

    Some things to think about:

Having the wall right next to the sink may be inconvenient and the wall could get wet.

Having the sink next to the wall could result in you banging into it when you're scrubbing and pulling heavy, wet stuff in an out.

Having the sink too far away from your washing machine plumbing and drain connections may be more expensive or complicated.

Having the sink too far away from the washing machine may increase a problem with drips when you transfer wet stuff to the machine.

Having a large section of counter on one side is always better than two evenly divided smaller sections (unless window placement drives this).

Are you right or left handed - I would put the largest side on your dominant side.

I would divide the 29" space into something roughly 8/21 or 6/23 inches or whatever looks eye sweet.

And don't forget, you'll need some wiggle room between wall and counter and washing machine and sink so you can't count on using up exactly every fraction of an inch.

Why not make a mock-up of your options out of cardboard boxes and see how it feels in real life?

I have a 30" Franke SS single 11"deep undermount sink. We pulled the cabinets out an extra 6 inches from the wall for a bigger counter to accommodate the sink. I have 72"long counter and put the sink on the left 8" to the right of the wall as you face the cabinets. I am right handed and have not problem with this sink and the wall since it is so wide. I am 5'2". You stand in the middle of the sink when using it. I have the rest of the counter for folding etc. and it works very well. Cabinet is 42" Kraftmaid sink cabinet. Other cab is 30" regular cab with one top drawer and pull out trays inside cab. The w/d fl Mieles on drawers are opposite the counter with the sink. Cabinets and granite match the kitchen which is next to this laundry room and in view when door is open. Love the sink and the extra depth of the counter. If you pull out the cabinets to accommodate the deep counter be sure to measure where the faucet is if you are putting it on the counter behind the sink. A wall mount would be better but we couldn't do it. It all just fit. Garbage disposal and sink drain are in rear right corner of sink.
