Rheem Modulating furnace setup

so i just fired up our furnace. it was installed in may so we have not used it yet.

after clearing a code 57 (one of the vents blocked?? i shop vac'ed them...and it worked...) the furnace fired up.

i sat beside the furnace during a firing cycle to "experience" the modulating furnace...um modulate! i didnt notice the burners change and i noticed a non-capital "h" in the window. i looked in the manual and it says it should have a capital "H" if it is receiving a modulating signal. i checked both the thermostat and the control board and both had a blue wire connected to the "V" terminal which looks correct.

any ideas on why it might not be modulating? i will call the hvac company that installed it if there isn't something simple...like a setting on the thermostat.

oh yah, the sw2 switches are both in the "off" position which the manual states is correct for the modulating thermostat

I did purchase the modulating thermostat...the latest one with on board dehumidification. on that note...i was dissapointed to see the "dehum" terminal on the furnace control board WITHOUT a wire to it...i have to assume that means i don't have the dehumidification function of my airconditioner working....grrrr!

    Sorry to hear that your not enjoying that nice comfort. A good chance that you didn't have enough wires to connect the dehu function.

    Assuming that everything is hooked up correctly, the only setting you can check is #1 in the configuration menu.

    It should be set at MS2.

    just a follow up. i had a tech come out, and he could not find anything wrong with the furnace or thermostat set up. he switched out the rheem mod stat (412) for a (411) and the furnace worked and received the modulating signal. i told him i wanted a 412, not a 411, so he was going to order one, so he put my 412 back on. low and behold...all was well and the furnace is recieving the mod signal.

    thanks for the help, and boy with that mod, you are hard pressed to even know it is running. very pleased

    Hey Armstrr, thanks for updating your post. It's great to know that everything worked out, considering that many don't even acknowledge helpful replies.

    This is my second heating season with my Mod. I have had thermostat problems (seems to be the weak link, the W-R stats). I'm on my second stat (a 411)and still have a minor problem (stat won't copy program in 7 day mode), but the main problem was corrected, so I'm leaving well enough alone.

    What's the difference between the 401 (still mentioned in Rheem literature as appropriate for their modulating furnaces) and the 411 or 412? (I read a sad story where a 401 was causing some kind of rapid cycling that a 411 fixed, so maybe it's a bad choice. Apparently it's a rebranded White Rogers unit, maybe too much of a compromise?)

    The 411 was basically just a firmware update. There were no 'visible' changes.

    The 412 incorporated the on-demand dehumidification feature.

    Get your H and modulation back?

    W-R normally makes a good stat but these Mod stats have been very buggy. Ought to see the new communicating controls coming out with the new Mods! They will be neat. Not quite as many bells & whistles as the Infinity control but more diagnostics I'm told. And a zoning system that modulates may happen, FINALLY!
