Layout Advice 3

jaynesb suggested I repost with a more appropriate subject title. So I will try again with some updates.

I know the two counter runs are too wide apart for a galley kitchen, but I wanted to squeeze as much in on the recessed wall as possible. After having worked in a U-shaped kitchen for 30 years, I hate corners. Not too keen on those tall pull-out pantries either, but could be persuaded. Other than that, I am open to ANYTHING!

Now that I have finished the drawing below, I am thinking it would be wiser to buy a range, put the pantry where I have drawn the wall ovens and place the MW in one of the upper cabinets to the right of the range.

At any rate, does anyone have any suggestions?

I made a mistake in the lower left corner. Please see below.

Will you be able to open the righthand refrigerator door back enough to be able to open the interior drawers past the door shelves? It looks like the frig door handle will keep it from opening past 90 degrees and that's usually not far enough. Depends on the frig model.

If you end up with a range, you could split the pantry so there are cabinets on each side of the fridge, which should allow it to open fully on both sides. Not my favorite idea, to have the deep, skinny cabs, but it's a suggestion...

I don't see how you will have any room to work with the sink and wall oven/micro where they are.

Is there some reason you haven't moved the sink further to the right (open) end of the counter (with the DW on the other side toward the wall cabinets)? If you move them far enough away from the wall cabinets, there will be plenty of space to open the DW and put the dishes away in the wall cabs.

Also, with the standard cabinet depth of 24", your sofa is going to get wet! If you made the counter top 30-36" deep, the sofa would be safer!

With the fridge where you have it, all traffic will interrupt anyone working in the kitchen.

I'd put the fridge where you have the pantry, center the cooktop in the rest of the counter space on that side, put the oven/MW where you have the fridge, make the rest of that wall normal upper and base cabinets, and put 9" deep tall cabinets about 42" wide built into the stud wall opposite the end of the "U" for the pantry , or forget the pantry.

I'm going to preface this by saying I had an idea for you I needed to see on paper but the graph was too small for me to read so I just did an approximation on everything. I can't read your clearances even on what I drew. I was thinking if you had 4' clearance behind the cook run maybe you could do 12" or 18" depth full wall pantry. You could even put your MW in the pantry is it's a small one. Or... put a MW drawer by the stove. I was trying to get you something that resembled a galley but I didn't know where to put the frig, so it came out a narrow U. You could do narrow pullouts for brooms, oils/spices, step stool on either side of the frig. Again... I have no idea what size I made everything because I couldn't read your graph and don't have a drawing program so I just pasted your plan into powerpoint. Go ahead... laugh at me... I crack myself up all the time. Ya' know what they say about good intentions...!

OK here are two more ideas, each loosely based on the above posters.

Will you be able to reach your glasses if the upper is set back and you have a tall, full depth pantry cab right beside?
