Something To Think About

There a lots questions posted asking which brand is best etc. Now before I start let me say I am not touting any brand. However, here are some things to think about. First no hvac maker produces all the parts used in their furnace or AC. Most make only the sheet metal and purchase the rest from the few available suppliers. There are only a few makers of capacitors, relays and motors. GE, Fasco, Stevco, Honeywell and mallory to name a few. These suppliers do not make bad parts for one maker and good for another. Here is one irrefutable fact, in each run of say 1000 parts, a certain number are going to fail early, no amount of testing will eliminate this, even NASA with the possibly the most exacting standards in use today has this problem. So when one purchases a piece of HVAC equipment, he is courting the the luck of a draw as to wheter he gets one the small number of parts that are going to fail. The name on label makes no difference. I know many will disagree with this statement, but in my 60 plus years in the field I have found it to be true. Any unit regardless of the brand that is sized wrong for it,t application and poorly installed will not give good service. Any unit made in the US will give decent service if properly sized and correctly installed. Now some units definitely have superior paint and heavier sheet metal and are quieter in operation than other units. Although I have never seen a unit that had to be discarded because of bad sheet metal. I would advise anyone considering a new hvac purchase, be more concerned about the comptency of your installer than the brand being installed. Next check several sources for prices, avoid the super cheap ones, most times you get what you pay for. Try to select some one that has been in business for awhile. This ia about all a consumer can do the rest is luck.
