It looks lovely as it is. My personal preference would be for some window treatments....but that's me.

Hard to see all the colors in the carpet in the pic, but I might pick one of them if I wanted to change upholstery....

I like the stripes you have now- maybe in a dark color? I love the room- it's very cozy and inviting.

Thank you both for your kind comments but I should mention that the sofa and love seat are not all that comfortable and the color has turned out not to be very practical. My friend also said the she thinks the style doesn't go with the room. So here is one couch my DH "tried out" and decided he likes. The couch is leather and the color is "graphite" . It was really hard to tell if the color will go with my room because the lighting in the store was not that great and they didn't have a leather sample I could take home. It is a new line and is only available in two colors the other being dark brown which I think would compete with the color of the club chairs. What do you think?

Love your club chairs. I'd stay away from more browns and more leather and look at maybe something in olive or a green with a rolled arm and deep seat that would coordinate with what you have. An alternative would even be a deep golden brown that would coordinate but I think I'd go opposite of too much brown. The rug looks like it has chocolate browns and beige.

That is a beautiful room!!! I would not do more leather. Instead, I would do a little darker fabric with some texture. To show you what I'm thinking, here is a picture of my family room sofa when I was trying to choose a fabric to use on an ottoman.

I think your current sofas are a little formal for this room, but I wouldn't add in any more leather. A clean lined sofa with fabric upholstery that has some texture and pattern to it would look great.

I am frustrated that I can't get an accurate color for the pictures of the fabric samples I have. Every picture I take washes out the colors. Outsideplaying, I have samples in both green and the gold/ brown you have suggested. They seem to work well with my rug. I also have a bold stripe that might work for an accent piece. If I go with a fabric as opposed to leather what combination of sofa, love seat or chairs would you use and what combination of colors and patterns would make for an interesting room.Should I stick with the roll arm sofa style in my previous post or would a different style work better.

Here is one of my stripe fabric sample .....again the color is not accurate but I'm wondering if the scale of pattern will work in the room. The colors in the fabric sample match perfectly with with my rug. Both the rug and the sample have chocolate browns, bronzes and rust colors in addition to the gray green and black. I may switch to a different camera to see if that makes a difference.

I REALLY like the leather sofa. Can you tell me who makes it and also whether it is firm and not too deep? My husband has back problems and needs a firm seat and back.

How about a relaxed and washable linen and navy stripe slipcover for the two light colored sofas? I've seen a lot of navy/light blue/ khaki linen color combinations in fabrics.

rzoe714 - We have had that sofa for 6 years (and it stills looks new, IMO). We are in the NW suburbs of Chicago and the sofa was purchased at a local furniture store. It is from Stickley and all I have is a number for the fabric. It is the Essex sofa in 7158-95. I don't know how much help that will be to you. The other fabric ended up on the ottoman purchased, again, from another local furniture store. I can give you more numbers, but I don't know if they will mean anything because I chose it from all the fabrics in the store and have no idea at all of the manufacturer. If, by chance, you are also in the Chicago area, then I can give you more details. Let me know if you want more information.

I'd like to offer another suggestion. What about a sectional-- no rolled arms, or perhaps oversized arms, upholstered in a cozy chenille fabric or a woven with a small pattern? I like boxy--bulkier sofas or sectionals for great rooms. With your high ceilings, nice windows and sharp looking club chairs-- everything would blend with the rug. You can go wild and add pop with your throw pillows!

Drexel-Heritage has their "Options" program which is affordable, comfortable and offers you all kinds of choices for arm, bottom and cushion styles. I don't see anything on their site (which leaves much to be desired) but in the store there were some good choices.

Your room has a strong symmetrical axis because of that wonderful fireplace wall. I would put either matching chairs or matching loveseats facing each other to complement and restate that lovely symmetry, I also think being able to walk up to the window would be lovely and give you a feeling of spaciousness. There are several options that might work -- two chairs facing plus a loveseat or sofa facing the fireplace directly. Or two loveseats facing with a couple of chairs facing the fireplace. I love the symmetry you have there and would try to take advantage of it and not go against it.

I think painting your fireplace wall a bold/brave color (easy and inexpensive to change later) and a new, more casual sectional would really change the room. You can get sectionals that are a full sofa (3 seats cushions) on both sides with a wedge in the middle. This would give you comfortable seating for 7.

P.S. Your house is very pretty. I love and envy all that wood cabinetry.
